At first glance, her striking blue eyes may fool you into thinking she's another pretty girl trying to "make it" in Nashville. But infectious melodies, powerful performances and sheer raw talent has audiences captivated with upcoming country-pop artist/songwriter Alayna.
The classically trained pianist has broken onto the Nashville music scene with a fresh country-pop crossover sound. Moving from her native state of western Pennsylvania, Alayna packed up her car and drove 10 hours to Music City to pursue a lifelong dream. And in a just a year she has already created a buzz throughout Nashville, writing with the likes of Corey Barker, Benita Hill, Rick Tiger and Kirsti Manna. Making her way through town, Alayna has performed at many well-known venues such as The Listening Room, Commodore Grille, and Hard Rock Cafe Nashville. Earlier in 2012, she held a successful Kickstarter campaign raising funds for her 6-song debut EP, "Top of a Dream", snatched up a Breedlove guitar endorsement, and is beginning to receive steady independent radio airplay.
Mixing childhood influences of pop melodies with the honesty of country lyrics, Alayna brings a new flavor to the table. “I listened to a lot of different artists growing up: Jewel, Brandy, LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow. I was really all over the map”, she says.
Though she didn't realize it right away, Alayna wrote her first song at age 12. It wouldn’t be until a few years afterward that she would finally understand the new talent she could craft. In between this time, she taught herself to play guitar and kept up with regular piano lessons.
Alayna says that the development of her songwriting has been very rewarding. “I’m always flattered when a friend or even someone I don’t know comes up to me after a performance and says they liked my song or can relate to my lyrics. It makes the experience that much greater. It’s such a blessing to know that you can make a difference to others in a creative way.” Vinny Ribas, Founder/CEO of Indie Connect located in Nashville, TN, points out the sincerity of her writing: “Alayna sings and writes songs with a rare and refreshing honesty that few artists are ever willing to share.”
It’s been quite the journey so far, but Alayna says it’s only just begun. She released her debut 6-track EP, "Top of a Dream", on June 26, 2012. Produced by Bill Warner, the EP's title track was co-written with Kirsti Manna (#1 hit "Austin" for Blake Shelton). Through her music and story, she says she hopes to inspire and touch the lives of others. ”My personal mantra is ‘Live a life of passion’. Do what you love. If you have a dream, why not pursue it? You only live once.”
