Carolyn Richards is an award winning, radio charting recording artist from southeastern Ohio. She is internationally known, and admired for her vocal abilities by fans and peers alike.
Carolyn Richards has always loved singing. Her parents had jam sessions at their home most weekends as she was growing up. She won a high school talent contest, netting her several appearances on local TV. She later turned down a major Nashville contract because it would have kept her away from her three kids for six to eight months a year.
Once the kids were grown, Carolyn cut her first album and started a band. She played fairs, festivals, and regional fraternal organizations for nearly ten years.
Carolyn got divorced, then met Dave Butcher in 1995, and they got married in 1998. He ran sound for the band, after buying a mixing board and snake for Carolyn's birthday. He developed literature and a web site for the band.
In 1999, Dave had been narrating a "Tribute To Patsy Cline" for the band. Because fans kept asking for one, the couple decided to cut an album based on that part of their stage show. It found immediate acclaim in cities and nations around the world, from Nashville and Branson, to Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Venezuela, and Australia. Songs released to radio made the indie charts. Carolyn found her name there among such greats as Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Randy Travis, The Oak Ridge Boys, Jeannie Kendall, and more. Singers she had always admired.
A man in California, who had co-written six of the songs Patsy Cline recorded, contacted Carolyn, asking her to record a new song, "Patsy, We're Still Lovin' You!". That resulted in album number three. The song reached #23 for two months in 2004.
The couple put together Carolyn Richards' Country Fun Show and began performing at various venues. The show has been a hit wherever it has been presented and has received many accolades.
Carolyn released several songs to radio. Her first did not make the charts, but the next five hit the top fifty on several charts. Two of her songs reached the top ten on the gospel charts. She was recognized as the #5 most played country artist in the world for two months in a row. An independent company rated her among the top three percent of radio vocalists worldwide [#96 of more than 3500].
Carolyn has performed in a variety of venues from Maryland to Idaho, Montana to Texas, and back home to Ohio. She has appeared with some of the greatest stars of country and gospel, and in some of the most famous venues in the USA.
Carolyn has sung at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN [where she first met Merle Haggard backstage]; the Palace Theatre in Marion, OH; the Paramount Theatre in Anderson, IN; the Branson Mall, Branson, MO; the Sagebrush Roundup in Fairmont, WV, and other great stages. She has appeared along with such stars as Brooks & Dunn, Collin Raye, Linda Davis, Merle Haggard, Bill Anderson, Jeannie Kendall, "The Tall Texan" Billy Walker, The Fox Brothers, Young Harmony, David L. Cook, Jeff Treece (Sunday Drive), Dottie Rambo, Mackenzie Morgan, Carolyn Connors, James Marvell, Billy Hale, Don Frost, Jimmy Snow, and many others. She is well respected by fans and by her peers for both vocal ability and personality.
Carolyn has always loved to sing gospel. She and Dave cut a gospel album, designed a musical ministry program, and eventually named themselves, 'Spiritual Road'. They have traveled many miles presenting that program in churches and other venues. They have appeared on a number of local and national TV shows, such as The Master's Music, The Jimmy Snow Show, Share, and The Music City Gospel Showcase.
