About Clay Franklin

Clay Franklin, Songwriter and voice of PoWhiteTrash has been playing music for money since he was 17. Music has always been his "mistress" He wrote his first song at 14 and over the next 3 decades or so he's written 100's of songs. Some of them memorable, and some forgotten before anyone ever heard them. Some of them were "good" enough for other people to learn, play and even record. He's been fortunate enough to play for all kinds of people. He's played from the banks of the Little Mo in Lower Arkansas to the bright lights of Vegas and everywhere in between. In beer joints at festivals, swanky clubs, restaurants, casinos and even on the street. He's shared the stage with everyone under the sun, from 3 legged Mule to Gov't Mule. He's flirted with the big time and floundered in the gutter.

One thing has always been constant for Clay...the music. "I have learned alot about people and human nature and what people like", Franklin said in recent interview. "Actually, it is very easy to entertain folks if they (the audience) don't like what you're doing, don't force feed them with a bunch of bullshit. I am completely crazy and I get even dangerous when you add Jagermiester and Budweiser". He's done some pretty crazy stuff on stage from playing a set in his underwear to busting a fender acoustic on the floor. "I have been very fortunate throughout the years to play with some of finest musicians in this part of the world and as far as I'm concerned, on this Planet! To name just a few, Hooch Green, Larry Womack, Billy Burns Jr., T.Y. Ford (RIP), Frank Allen (RIP), Mustang Sally Simpson, B-Rad Davis, Jeff Carey, Doyle Marshall, Brent Chalker, Greg Westfall and Jed Clampitt. I have learned a great deal from the people I've shared the stage with throughout the years."

After all these years, the hair still stands up on the back of his neck when he "connects" with an audience. "I still blush when someone tells me they "really like my stuff. Oh, and I still have a great weakness for women. beautiful women of all ages, shapes and backgrounds." Finally, Franklin is always flattered when folks ask him to play for them. In Franklin's mind there is no better place in the world to him than a smokey beer joint full of rednecks, bikers and crazy bar girls. That pretty much sums him up in a few words so, next time you hangin' out with PoWhiteTrash, having some "adult beverages".....
