About Georgia Middleman

Country singer Georgia Leigh Middleman was born in Houston, TX. When she was only ten years old, she landed a steady singing gig at San Antonio's Texas Star Inn, where she pleased audiences with renditions of old favorite country tunes like "Coal Miner's Daughter." A young entrepreneur with big dreams, Middleman wrote and recorded a song before she hit her teens, selling it to school friends at recess. A few years later she had moved up to opening for legendary artists like Willie Nelson and Merie Haggard. By the time she was 17, she was writing songs with hit songwriter Dick Wagner.

After Middleman completed high school, she won a theater scholarship to N.Y.U. In between studies, she appeared in a number of off-Broadway shows and kept hard at work on her songwriting. When college was behind her, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, with aspirations of being an actress. By 1992, her love for music pulled her away from acting and drew her to Nashville.

Those first years were hard and lean, so Middleman took other jobs to pay the bills. She spent time working as a waitress, a clerk, and a receptionist while appearing at clubs at night and on weekends. In 1997 she became a member of the songwriting staff for Polygram Music. While her writing job kept the lights on and food on the table, Middleman used her time off to put together a band of her own and continue to perform as a singer. One of those performances was watched by Doug Johnson, president of the Giant Records label.

Middleman was soon in the studio working on a debut 12-track album, No Place like Home. Some of the hot country tunes on this first release are "A New Pair of Shoes" and "Someone Who Loves You." The rocking number "Kick Down the Door" is also featured on this first release. Its fun video earned lots of air play for Middleman on stations like CMT. A sophomore effort entitled Endless Possibilities followed in early 2001. ~ Charlotte Dillon, Rovi
