John started playing guitar at the age of 15 and was in his first garage band by age of 16. During this time John met other musicians from the area. One friend on a fishing trip, Barry Oakley of Allman Brothers fame, suggest he start playing bass guitar. At that perticular time guitars and drummers were a dime a dozen, and every group was looking for good bass guitarist. From there John played with different groups from the south. Barry introduced him to Bryan Hyland, The Bushman, and The Candymen (Roy Orbinson's backup group on the east coast). John then moved to Virginia in 1988 to a secluded farm in the Appalachian mountains to solely write. In 1992 John began playing in public at singer/ songwriters and open mic nights in the area and Eastern Tennessee.
