Dazzling red curls and jewel-blue eyes are what you see; an amazing voice and infectious personality is what you hear; exuberant and full of life is what you feel when you watch her perform. Lexi James is the whole package, winning over audiences wherever she appears. Lexi has shared the stage with some of Country Music's finest, including Tracy Lawrence, Cody McCarver (formerly of Confederate Railroad), Daryle Singletary, and Stephen Cochran.
One of Country Music’s hottest young newcomers, Lexi is quickly making a name for herself with extensive secondary market radio airplay of her singles, "This Is My Time" and “Here You Go”, off of her self-titled release, Lexi James. This first effort, recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, TN, shows versatility in style and emotion. But there’s no denying it – it’s all Lexi! Edgy at times, tender at others. From the hard driving tracks of “This Is My Time” and “Get While The Getting’s Good”, to the Sweet Southern Charm of “Because You Love Me” and “Find My Way Home”, to the modern sounding “Here You Go” and “Just Enough”, this album has a little something for everyone.
The New England native has always held a deep rooted passion and love for song. Influenced at an early age by legendary artists such as Whitney Houston and Martina McBride, her modern sense of flair and style is reminiscent of today’s country and pop stars, such as Carrie Underwood, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. “One of the first voices I ever heard was Whitney Houston,” Lexi recalls. “I fell in love with the power and emotion in her voice. She was the first person I heard that made me want to sing. I love a lot of different styles of music, but I have the utmost respect for singers who are vocalists.”
Add to all this, the title of songwriter. That’s right! Lexi co-penned three tracks for her first CD; “This Is My Time”, “Just Hold Me” and “I Wonder”. The latter, “I Wonder”, is based from real life experience. Co-written with her keyboard player, the song stories how her cousins became her siblings.
“I wrote (I Wonder) about my three cousins who live with me in Maine. I consider them my siblings. About twelve years ago, my aunt decided that she didn’t want them anymore and just left them in our driveway. They’ve lived with us ever since. I remember one day sitting in my room wondering if she ever thought about them, or if they ever crossed her mind.” Lexi adds, “We’re all doing great now. I love them so much and I couldn’t imagine life without them. I introduce them as my sisters and brother. It’s important for me to write about real-life. I know it’s therapeutic for me and I hope my songs can also help others get through difficult times.”
Lexi is also candid in talking about her experiences with bullying. "Yes, I was bullied", she tells people. "Many times. Not just in elementary school. Not just in middle school. Not just in high school. Not just once. Not just twice. But many times… my whole life. I never have been and never will be cruel enough to bully ANYBODY. Because I know how it feels to be criticized and attacked for no reason. I stutter sometimes when I'm nervous and it's partly because I have social anxiety."
There’s one song on her CD that she is especially proud of. It’s called "This Is My Time." Co-written with her keyboard player, Bill, it only took 2 days to write because, as she puts it, "Everything kind of fell together - I think because the song is just SO special. It has a message that needed to be shared…"
The most important thing you'll ever need to know about Lexi James is that she loves to sing. Don’t miss your chance to catch this rising star in action.
