Markus Fox, an Alabama native proudly calls I-65 his hometown. He grew up on the gulf coast in Mobile, Alabama and the pines of Elmore County. When Markus was nine years old, he asked for a guitar for Christmas. His father told him that he wouldn’t play it for more than a week, even still Markus got his wish. Now 13 years later, Markus continues to play guitar.
When Markus graduated from Theodore High School, he left to attend Troy University. It was there Markus realized it was time to do something different with his life.
Like three generations before him, Markus walked into a United States Marine Corp recruiter’s office and dedicated the next four years of his life to serve his country. At age 19, he faced his first tour of duty in Iraq, followed by a second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was 21. While serving his country, he continued to play and write his music, finding refuge within its chords. It was there that Markus wrote his first single, “Sacrifices”. Markus will tell you, “If you see a Veteran out, it doesn’t matter where, take a second to thank them. You’ll never know what it means to them”.
2013 was a big year for Markus. As a featured guest of "American Hero Experience" on NBC Sports, Markus shared a dream saltwater fishing trip on Florida's coast with his dad. As part of his AHE experience, he was invited to Nashville to perform and professionally record "Sacrifices" as a new Gibson artist. Many writing and music industry relationships were formed, including his label, Outdoor Music Group. Markus spent much of 2013 writing and performing with Nashville's top songwriters like Walt Aldridge, Wynn Varble, Karen Staley, Don Poythress, Ricky Ray and Mike Lane. In October of that year, Markus recorded his first EP, "Thinkin' Out Loud" in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The EP was released on Veteran's Day, November 11th and debuted at #4 on iTunes Hot Country Hits. That same day, he performed at the Ryman Auditorium and was invited to share the stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd where he presented Gibson Les Pauls to two veterans with PTSD. It was an amazing night.
Markus currently resides in Elmore County, Alabama. Likely you'll find him in a pair of muddy boots around a bonfire strumming his guitar with his hunting buddies or... you'll see him in his truck heading north on I-65.
