Matt Austin grew up in the Detroit downriver area with a guitar-playing father but he didn’t gain interest in playing until his uncle from Texas moved to Michigan. He was inspired first by the sound of the blues guitar greats Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Matt later fell in love with this new age country genre that is growing by leaps and bounds.
In 2013 along with releasing his new EP Matt Austin, was also direct support for Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert, Uncle Kracker, Aaron Lewis, Josh Gracin, Charlie Worsham, Chase Rice and Jerrod Niemann.
MA has also performed in 2013 to thousands at many of the great country music festivals in Michigan such as 99.5 WYCD’s downtown hoedown and the Faster Horses series at Michigan international speedway.
“After all of my history playing rock music, I have now grown in to the artist that best fits who I am, and it shows in this record,” says Matt Austin, “and it is good to do music that can touch your soul and raise the hairs on your arms.” This new age country sets the stage for Matt to be able to perform his songs to new amazing and rewarding fans.
Austin soon put together a band of all stars to perform with him on stage and to also help bring his music to life. Ken Kudsin on drums and Tommy Furbacher on guitar both come from a rock background and bring that “rock edge” to the stage show. They have played with such local rock groups Panic Trigger and Soul Circus. Shance Carlisle comes from a background of hip hop/ rock and soul. He is the “fire cracker” on stage and is full of energy that comes out in his playing. Matt’s right hand man on and off stage is Kyle Palermino, on backing vocals and lead guitar.
Kyle and Matt actually come from the same background in music. Matt’s first band was a spot in Kyle’s dad’s band, the Killer B’s when he was 17. Kyle was only 13 at the time. So years later when MA moved on to start his own project, Kyle took over for him playing guitar for the B’s and later went on to play for National Recording Artist and Detroit rapper HUSH. KP after 4 years performing in the Detroit area moved to Nashville to expand his musical knowledge and opportunities.
In late 2012 Matt was in Nashville recording his most recent self titled EP and ran into KP. After not seeing each other in years, Matt told Kyle that if he decided to move back home to Michigan, he would love to have him on the team. Kyle moved home later that year and the two have been putting in a lot of work getting this band tight and paying their dues to pave the way for future success.
Matt also recently signed up with 505-Artist Management founder, Kenny Bott. With a long history of music booking, managing and live sound background, Kenny has definitely proven to be the “Ace” in the hole. He keeps the band very busy playing the Toby Kieth’s I love this bar and grill venues nationwide and many other country bars in surrounding states.
