Matthew David Bailie (born in Jacksonville, FL on June 29, 1987). Some say he’s had everything handed to him, good looks, natural talent, and an instant smile. Some know the real Matt Bailie. They know the kid whose entertainer father, David, died when the plane he was piloting crashed, leaving his young wife Catherine to raise Matt on her own. Some know the Matt Bailie who is obsessed with music. Others know the Matt Bailie who tenderly takes care of his toddler daughter. To know Matt Bailie you have to go deeper into his world, but? Only after you’ve been invited in.
Since Matt Bailie took his first steps, he was walking in his father’s footsteps. It didn’t matter that Matt hardly knew his dad; it was built into his DNA."I didn't get the chance to know my dad, but I feel him there with me when I’m on stage," Matt expresses. "He’s there pushing me on? telling me to give the fans all I have? So I do."
As a young man, his mother Catherine recognized Matt’s natural ability to entertain, and encouraged Matt to develop his stage awareness. Casting directors agreed that this young man was special. At the young age of twelve, Matt began his acting career in local theater appearing in productions of Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, and Phantom of the Opera. He then moved on to film, appearing in episodes of the WB TV series, Safe Harbor, and the Spanish Moss Production movie, Surfacing.
Acting rounded out Matt’s experience, but Matt didn't want to wait for someone to discover his musical talent. He knew music was his true destiny. He pushed his way into every opportunity available. At the age of fifteen, Matt was the youngest finalist to make it to the state finals in the Colgate Country Showdown, representing his hometown, Jacksonville, Florida. "The boy makes me think of Garth Brooks when he performs" said one of the judges at the Showdown.
By the time Matt was eighteen, he was touring with his own band, a group of musicians out of Jacksonville. They opened for artists such as Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and the legendary, 38 Special among others. But that was not enough for the ambitious eighteen-year old. Matt had to be in the hub of the country genre. He made the decision to leave his home and move to Nashville? on his own? by himself? yes, at age 18.
Matt attended Nashville’s SAE Institute of Technology where he studied sound audio engineering, increasing his knowledge of the technical side recording business. It didn't take long for Matt’s talent to attract industry approval. Already a strong songwriter, Matt sought the counsel of ASCAP’s then VP of Artist Relations, John Briggs. Briggs, calling him a strong songwriter, says of Matt, "He’s determined to make a place for himself in this business."
Country Weekly magazine featured Matt in their "Listen Up" column in October of 2008 with his song "Here’s Now." Matt has co-produced with Nashville producer, Chip Martin, his current project, self titled Matt Bailie. Journalist John Shelton Ivany in his column, "Top 21" , named the project, Album of the Week saying of Bailie's CD, "He is able to capture character and play it out in song. This is just the beginning for Matt Bailie. His charming persona is going to get him a lot of fans, and he's keeping with a reliably tasteful style of country music in the background - just a touch of the blues goes a long way." A review in Country Entertainment USA gave Matt 5 out of 5 Stars stating, "This project is country to the core and reminiscent of an early Garth Brooks. I am looking forward to watching Matt Bailie’s career grow!"
Matt signed a management contract with Nashville based firm EMC (Entertainment Management Company, LLC) and signed his first label deal in 2012. He's released his first video on a song he wrote with fellow Floridian, and member of the group, 38 Special, Donnie Van Zant and Aaron Scherz, "Man Behind These Eyes." In Summer 2012 Matt Bailie released his second Music video for his HIT single "Everyday You" Matt will begin recording his second Album with Producer "Darran Smith" who Co- Produced 4 of Tim McGraw's last Albums and was the lead guitar player for Tim McGraw's Dancehall Doctors for 23 years! Bailie is to start his Debut Tour in 2013 ! ,Van Zant says of Matt, "Keep your eyes and ears open for this talented singer songwriter ‘cause he's on his way..."
