Matt the Electrician is the stage name of Matt Sever, a singer/songwriter based in Austin, Texas. Sever has released a total of 9 albums through 2014 and his work has been used on the television series Eli Stone and Army Wives. Biography: Matt Sever was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up in the state of Oregon. Sever began playing coffee houses when he was 15 years old and broke into the Austin scene by hosting an open mic night at the now defunct Flipnotics Coffeespace. He began his recording career in 1996. Sever earned the moniker Matt the Electrician, when he would arrive at gigs still sweaty from a day's work in the Austin Summer heat and explain, "Hi, my name is Matt, and I'm an electrician." Early press referred to Sever being "a regular blue-collar type of guy." Sever's musical style has been described as folk-pop or neo-folk, but more generally incorporates various styles of roots-based acoustic music. He performs and records either with a full band or as a solo acoustic act, and often with back-up singer Seela Misra. Since 1999 Matt the Electrician has toured across the United States, Europe, and Japan. His music has been featured in multiple American television shows. Most notably the single "Valedictorian" from the album Long Way Home was featured in episodes of Eli Stone and Army Wives.
