His musical journey started at age 5 in 1969 when he performed in a school play and this started his love for making music. Born in Chicago, IL. July 4th. 1963 and raised in Southern California in a Navy town, Ray grew up on traditional country music and bluegrass music. His biggest influences were Hank Williams Sr., Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, John Hartford, Jimmy Martin, Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Willie Neslon, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens & Johnny Paycheck to name a few.
Ray's musical journey included a short stint in the U.S. Army and a long list of honky tonks, bars, festivals & house parties. He plays guitar, banjo, lap steel, electric and upright bass, dobro and he has a great vocal ability too.
