She came to prominence as the lead singer of Dubstar, and then as a singer-songwriter in Client (a project in which she used the stage name Client B). She was signed to Food Records with Dubstar, and Andy Fletcher's Toast Hawaii with Client.
Blackwood supported Depeche Mode with band Technique for one tour, before deciding to form Client. She has also worked with William Orbit, Soman, Die Krupps, Pete Doherty, Douglas McCarthy, Gary Numan, Ian Broudie, Martin Gore, Sacha Distel, Tim Burgess, Carl Barât, Robert Görl, bandmate Chris Wilkie on non-Dubstar projects, Moonbootica, and Mark Nevin of Fairground Attraction, among others.
Blackwood attended a local school, and went to Newcastle University to study interior design. She lived in Manchester when operating exclusively within Dubstar, but now lives and works in London.
Blackwood has released a live, acoustic solo EP as Client B, featuring Dubstar guitarist Chris Wilkie.
