In July 2011, Thomas Hassell and Alex Michael broke off from a group of friends in Nashville to walk down Broadway and listen to the bands play in the bars that line either side of the street. After a night of this, they stopped in front of the last bar and while they were listening, Alex mentioned to Thomas that playing music was what he really wanted to do and that he saw himself as a lead singer in a country band one day. Thomas heard that and was quick to respond, “Well, I’ll be your drummer!” Flash forward to August 2011. Thomas approaches Alex at his apartment with the chorus and lead line to a song he had been working on. Alex was able to add the lyrics and together they finished “Draw You a Song” in two hours time. This was the first song that these two artists had ever written together and the true start of The Alex Michael Band as it is today. In November 2011 they decided that it was time to start finding other musicians to help fill out their sound. The first band member recruited was a fiddle player that Alex had met during his unsuccessful first attempt at creating the Alex Michael Band his freshman year of college. When asked to play fiddle in the newer, more serious version of the band, Jonathan Warren jumped at the opportunity. These three musicians became the core of the band as they continued to search for a guitarist and bass player that could commit. In January of 2013, Brandon Salaway joined the band as the lead guitarist and now these four young men are the heart of a country rock experience like you have never heard before.
