About Tim Ash
Tim Ash grew up in a family of musicians, and learned to play guitar, piano, bass and drums by ear. His first solo was in church at the age of three, and he hasn’t stopped singing since! Originally from Bridgeport, Illinois, his family moved often and spending so much of his childhood as “the new kid” helped Tim become a person who’s never known a stranger. His roots run deep in music, family and faith.
That faith was tested in October 2000 when, working as a pipefitter, Tim was pinned under a half-ton of steel that fell from his work truck. It was 16 months of therapy and rehab before he was able to get back to a normal life. But instead of turning bitter or angry, Tim learned to be grateful for the gift of life, to cherish every moment and to follow his heart back his first love – music.
With influences that range from New Grass Revival & The Little River Band, to 3 doors down and Tim Mcgraw, Tim has developed a distinctive style that engages everything from bluegrass to art rock. After competing successfully at talent shows and contests across the Midwest he was a featured artist at the 2004 CMA Music Fest in Nashville. Tim opened for Travis Tritt’s “Grill for the Thrill” tour that same year, and has appeared with some of country music’s biggest names from Keith Urban to Rascal Flats. His voice has been compared to “American Idol” winner Chris Daughtry, and his stage show is as compelling as any headliner’s in the industry.
Tim’s first album, “Get Real”, co-written and produced in Nashville by Steven Williams, is a song cycle of hope, endurance, and the strength of the human spirit – all themes close to Tim’s heart, steeped in a satisfying Country gravy. His second collection, “In No Particular Order” (a Vstarr release) takes his music to a new level of well-crafted poetry and rich musicianship, and evidences Tim’s growth both as songwriter and performer. From thoughtful, romantic ballads to stories of challenge and struggle, his passion and spirituality are beautifully expressed here with the aid of some of Nashville’s finest players. And this is no “three chords and a cloud of dust” set – Tim displays an incredibly eclectic musical palette with a fine pop sensibility. He manages to combine “less-is-more” simplicity with ear-appealing complexity and lyrics that are full of deeply identifiable imagery.
And on his latest endeavor the highly anticipated Round 3, we hear the best songs that Tim has ever written. When he lays pen to paper these days folks, he is not messing around. These new tunes show a growth not only in Tim Ash the songwriter, but also in Tim Ash the man.He has truly come full circle as both and out done himself this time around.
A proud husband and father of five, Tim is active in his local church and enjoys spending time on the front porch with his family, his dog and his guitar. He plans a major tour in 2013 to benefit childhood cancer awareness. He and his band are currently honing their sound in local venues around Evansville, Indiana. Access his music at timash.net
After nearly three decades in the “hit music” business, I am convinced that Tim Ash is poised to become one of the finest singer-songwriters ever to emerge from an area of the country that gave rise to The Everly Brothers and Merle Travis, among others. Despite personal roadblocks that would have de-railed others he has pressed on towards a higher calling, fueled by a musical gift he credits to his Creator. As Tim puts it, “I’ve heard it said that every rock makes a ripple when it hits the water, no matter how large or small. I’m just trying my best to make a ripple!”
