About TJ Leonard
Soon TJ was introduced to pop and blues through his cousin that was a little bit older and played in a famous Swedish pop band. This opened up a whole new world and every day after school he locked himself in his room and played to the tape recorder trying to find the right chords and discovered that he also had a voice. He hooked up with a couple of guys in school and they dived in the big music treasure of The Beatles.
At eighteen he became the lead singer and guitar player in a dance band and performed on weddings, parties and small venues in south of Sweden for a while.
In 1995 he moved to Stockholm and went to Kulturama artist school and Stockholms Music Conservatory witch lead to a lot of important contacts with both musicians and people involved in the music industry.
A lot of genres passed through TJ:s life. Jazz, hard rock, gospel, soul/r&b but not until country music came along it felt like home. It was the wish to work with real instruments again after years of computer programmed music that lead to the strong love for this genre.
Together with Tex Taylor he started CHESTNUT band in 2010 and later that year they released their first single 110% Country followed by the EP American Dream.
CHESTNUT band then released the single Redneck Neighborhood that went really well especially in the US but even in Europe and Australia. They played at most of the country festivals all around Sweden and Denmark and in both 2012 and 2013 they were nominated in Swedish Country Music Championships.
Sometimes things change and it´s time to write a new chapter. Therefore TJ decided late 2013 to release his songs under his own name. TJ Leonard.
Outside of music, outdoor life is a big part of TJ:s life. He grew up in the small village Morrum, famous for Morrumsån (The Morrum river) with its big salmons and sea trouts and learned the art of fly fishing at an early age. He got his first shot gun from his uncle and the love for hunting was born.
