I was raised on the sounds of Bobby Osbourne's pickin' bluegrass, Alan Jackson's hit country, and Lynyrd Skynyrd's southern rock and roll. Ever since I was little, I loved music. However, I never learned to play anything until the sixth grade. I joined the South Greene Band on alto sax. Around this time I discovered jazz. I became fascinated by the styles of Charlie Parker and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. In the seventh grade, I switched to bassoon for concert band. At this time I discovered classic rock. From the early metal of Black Sabbath, to the pop culture icons that were the Beatles. I loved it all. I wanted to play the guitar. I started out being self taught until I met then high school senior Eric Feltman. Feltman introduced me to my new favorite style: the blues. I started listening to SRV, Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and so many others that have shaped my guitar playing. In early high school I discovered the reggae-punk of Sublime and the very obscene punk rockers NOFX. This is about when I started playing ukulele and bass. Currently I have re-discovered my roots in bluegrass and country. I am currently a student of Gar Cutshaw on bluegrass guitar.
I love every genre of music. These have all shaped my playing to what it is today, even though I still have a long way to go, and more music to discover.
