3rd Annual CMA Awards Summary

The popular singer and TV star Tennessee Ernie Ford hosts the event as it is broadcast live for the first time. Johnny Cash sets a record by winning five awards -- entertainer, male vocalist, single, album and vocal group with wife June Carter Cash. This record has yet to be broken. Tammy Wynette continues her reign as the female vocalist just as Chet Atkins earns his third instrumentalist of the year award. The swing influenced band Danny Davis & the Nashville Brass take home the instrumental group of the year, and Archie Campbell wins comedian of the year. The singer and movie star Gene Autry is inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
