Official Voting Rules


These are the official terms and conditions (the "Official Voting Rules") for voting in connection with the "2018 CMT Music Awards" (the "Show") scheduled to air on "CMT" on June 6, 2018 (“Show Day”). These Official Voting Rules are incorporated by reference into cmt.com’s (the "Website") Terms of Use Agreement.


1. Eligibility


At the time of voting, individuals must be at least 13 years of age or older to vote, legal residents of one of the fifty (50) United States or District of Columbia or Canada and cannot be an employee, agent or representative of Country Music Television Inc. or Viacom Media Networks, a division of Viacom International Inc. (collectively, "VMN"), Viacom Inc., or any of their respective parent companies, affiliate or related companies.

3. How To Vote the General Voting Period


(a) The voting period for each of the foregoing categories will commence on May 8, 2018 at or around 10:00am AM Eastern Time (ET) and shall continue through and end on June 4, 2018 at 12:01 AM ET (the “General Voting Period”). For the Video of the Year category only, voting will resume pursuant to the below VOTY Show Day Voting Period guidelines, as described below.


VOTING WILL BE BY WEBSITE ONLY DURING THE GENERAL VOTING PERIOD: Click the web vote button next to the nominee for whom you want to vote. Then, follow the instructions to vote (NOTE: you will have to log in to vote by web by either registering on cmt.com (if not already registered) or using your login credentials from any of the following: CMT.com, Facebook, or Google. During the General Voting Period, you will be able to vote as many times as you wish.


If you are accessing the Website using a mobile device, you must (a) have a plan with a wireless carrier which includes a data service and (b) use a wireless device that is capable of accessing the Internet. Voting via mobile device shall be offered on an "as is" basis and may not be available in all areas of the U.S. or Canada at all times. Voting via mobile device may cease to be available to you in the event of product, software, coverage or other service changes made by your wireless carrier.


Standard data rates and other charges may apply all as provided in your wireless service rate plan. (Please contact your wireless carrier for pricing plans and details).


Any individual who has not reached the age of majority in his/her state of residence should obtain the consent of the responsible party of the wireless device prior to using it to submit a vote.


Votes will not be accepted prior to or after the General Voting Period and only votes applicable to the specific categories will be accepted. All votes submitted become the sole property of VMN and will not be acknowledged or returned.


(b) The top five (5) nominees who receive the most votes in the Video of the Year category during the General Voting Period will be announced the morning of the Show, with voting in the Video of the Year category (only) then resuming and the winner of Video of the Year will be determined in the VOTY Show Day Voting Period as described below.


4. How To Vote during the Video of the Year ("VOTY") Show Day Voting Period


(a) VOTY Show Day Voting Period: At the end of the General Voting Period, the top five (5) nominees for Video of the Year will move on to the VOTY Show Day Voting Period with all previous votes erased and the tabulation beginning at "0" for each of the five (5) remaining VOTY nominees. The VOTY Show Day Voting Period opens at approximately 8:00 AM ET on Show Day and shall continue until approximately 8:15 PM ET, with winners to be announced during the live broadcast of the Show (subject to change in VMN’s sole discretion).


VOTING WILL BE BY TWITTER ONLY DURING THE VOTY SHOW DAY VOTING PERIOD: A Twitter account is required for entry. You may vote on your web enabled mobile device via the Twitter app during the VOTY Show Day Voting Period by (a) tweeting #CMTawards and #VOTE[ARTIST’S FIRST NAME] to count as one vote (the “Hashtag Vote”); or (b) follow the Hashtag Vote instructions in any call to action provided in any tweet message received from VMN; and then follow CMT’s Twitter account so you can see updates and announcements related to the VOTY winner. You must submit your Hashtag Vote in accordance with the foregoing instructions during the VOTY Show Day Voting Period to count as a vote. Retweets will count as valid votes. Votes that exceed 280 characters will not count. Multiple Tweets in one original Tweet will not count as valid votes. Submissions with the Hashtag Vote constitute your acceptance of these Official Rules. Votes must be submitted as directed and within the timeframe specified by VMN. The failure of an entrant to comply with the foregoing may result in an incomplete or disqualified Vote. VMN has the sole discretion to determine whether a submission qualifies as a Vote. During the VOTY Show Day Voting Period, you will be able to vote as many times as you wish.


Entries must be submitted in accordance with Twitter’s Terms of Use, which can be found at https://twitter.com/tos. Your Twitter account privacy settings must be set to “Off”. If you do not have a Twitter account, visit http://www.twitter.com. The Twitter app is available for download on your mobile device by visiting https://twitter.com/download.


The Winner for the VOTY Show Day Voting Period category will be announced during the live broadcast of the Show at approximately 8:15 PM ET (subject to change in VMN’s sole discretion).


5. General Terms


Use of any device to automate a vote is prohibited, including but not limited to software-generated, robotic, programmed, script, macro or other automated votes. VMN reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual (and remove any votes from that individual) it suspects or finds: (i) to have used a software-generated, robotic, programmed, script, macro or other automated online/WAP or texting vote; (ii) to have tampered with the voting process; (iii) to be acting in violation of these Official Voting Rules; or (iv) to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. VMN reserves the right to remove votes at its sole discretion.


If, for any reason, any aspect of this voting process is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical or system failures or disruption, 'Acts of God' or terrorist attacks, or any other causes beyond the control of VMN which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the voting process or for any reason VMN deems it necessary, VMN reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the voting process and reserves the right in its sole discretion to determine the winner(s). VMN reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with any aspect of the voting process or the operation of the voting process or website; to be acting in violation of these Official Voting Rules; or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person and void all associated votes.


You participate in this voting process at your own risk. VMN, Facebook, Twitter or Google or any of their respective parent companies, affiliated companies, related companies, sponsors, subsidiaries and advertising agencies, and any entity associated with this voting process ("Released Parties") are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) difficulty accessing telecom systems; (ii) errors in transmission; (iii) service outage or delays or for any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of email or players on account of any technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or combination thereof; (iv) any incomplete, lost, late, delayed, misdirected or garbled votes or failure to receive votes; (v) injury or damage to you or to any other person’s computer or mobile phone related to or resulting from participating in, or downloading materials or software, or attempts to participate in or download materials or software related to this voting process or (vi) failures or malfunctions of phones (including wireless phones/handsets), phone lines or telephone systems, cellular equipment towers, telephone systems or wireless services or other communications malfunctions. Released Parties are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Released Parties that may cause the voting to be disrupted or corrupted; (ii) typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of these Official Voting Rules or (iii) any errors in the announcement of potential winner(s).


Participants assume all liability for any injury or damages caused or claimed to be caused by his or her participation in the voting opportunity described in these Official Voting Rules, and release Released Parties and any party associated with the production or exhibition of this Show and their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, parents, subsidiaries and affiliates from any such claim or liability.


By participating in this voting process, you agree to be bound by these Official Voting Rules. Failure to comply with these Official Voting Rules may result in a voter’s disqualification solely at the discretion of VMN. VMN reserves the right to modify these Official Voting Rules at any time in VMN’s sole discretion.


All interpretations of these Official Voting Rules and the decisions of VMN relating to this voting process are final.


The nominee, who receives the highest number of valid votes in each category, as determined by VMN in its sole discretion, will be deemed the winner of the category. In the event of a dispute or tie or if for any other reason VMN deems it necessary or appropriate, VMN reserves the right to make the final determination as to which of the nominees will be declared the winner of the category. Nominees are prohibited from obtaining votes by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, as determined by VMN in its sole discretion.


The voting process is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws. Caution: Any attempt by you or any other individual to deliberately damage or tamper with the voting process, or otherwise undermine the legitimate operation of the voting is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made. Released Parties reserve the right to seek damages (including attorneys’ fees) and/or other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.


The "2018 CMT Music Awards" are in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Twitter or Google. Inquiries (whether questions, comments or complaints) should be directed to VMN, not to Facebook, Twitter or Google.

Who can vote?

Anyone 13 years of age or older with a registered CMT.com, Facebook or Google account will be able to cast their vote online during the General Voting Period (see below). On June 6, 2018 (“Show Day”), voting will be via Twitter only.


When can I vote?

The “General Voting Period” opens at approximately 10:00 AM ET on May 8, 2018 and ends on June 4, 2018 at 12:01 AM ET.


The “Video of the Year Show Day Voting Period” opens at approximately 8:00 AM ET on Show Day and shall continue until approximately 8:15 PM ET, with winners to be announced during the live broadcast of the Show(subject to change in VMN’s sole discretion).


Votes will not be accepted prior to or after these respective voting periods.


How do I vote?

General Voting Period

If you have a CMT.com, Facebook or Google account, you can vote online at www.cmt.com during the General Voting Period. If you do not already have a CMT.com, Facebook or Google account, you will need to create one before being able to vote online for the 2018 CMT Music Awards nominees. Once you have your account, go to the category for which you would like to vote. If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted to login. Follow the instructions for logging into your CMT.com, Facebook or Google account to login. Once you are logged in, you can click the "Vote" button next to the nominee for which you would like to vote.


Show Day

During the Video of the Year Show Day Voting Period you may vote via Twitter only by (a) tweeting #CMTawards and #VOTE[ARTIST’S FIRST NAME] to count as one vote (the “Hashtag Vote”); or (b) follow the Hashtag Vote instructions in any call to action provided in any tweet message received from VMN; and then follow CMT’s Twitter account so you can see updates and announcements related to the VOTY winner. You must submit your Hashtag Vote in accordance with the foregoing instructions during the VOTY Show Day Voting Period to count as a vote. Voters may be subject to standard fees imposed by their internet service provider and/or mobile device provider. Votes cast outside of the respective voting window will be invalid.


How many times can I vote?

As many times as you like.


Why do you need a CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google account to vote online?

Logging into your account is a key security feature to guard against voting fraud. If you do not already have an account on one of the following: CMT.com, Facebook or Google, you will need to create one before being able to vote for the 2018 CMT Music Awards nominees.


What are the minimum software requirements for voting online?

To vote online, you must have an active CMT.com, Facebook or Google account, have Macromedia Flash enabled, have javascript enabled and have cookies enabled.


How do I find out the results?

The results will be revealed live during the 2018 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday June 6th on CMT (see your local listings for show dates and times).

CMT reserves the right, for any reason and in its sole discretion, to modify, suspend or discontinue the voting service without prior notice. CMT reserves the right to modify the show’s contest rules, and the terms and conditions of this voting process at any time in CMT’s sole discretion.
