Voting Rules


These are the official terms and conditions (the "Official Voting Rules") for voting in connection with the "2017 CMT Music Awards" (the "Awards Show") scheduled to air on "CMT" on June 7, 2017. These Official Voting Rules are incorporated by reference into cmt.com's (the "Website") Terms of Use Agreement.


1. Eligibility


At the time of voting, individuals must be at least 13 years of age or older to vote, legal residents of one of the fifty (50) United States or District of Columbia or Canada and cannot be an employee, agent or representative of Country Music Television Inc. or Viacom Media Networks, a division of Viacom International Inc. (collectively, "VMN"), Viacom Inc., or any of their respective parent companies, affiliate or related companies.

3. How To Vote during Phase 1


(a) The voting period for each of the foregoing categories will commence on May 9, 2017 at 9:30am AM Eastern Time (ET) and shall continue through and end on June 5, 2017 at 12:01 AM ET (the "General Voting Period"), except that the Social Superstar category shall continue to run through and into the live broadcast of the Awards Show on June 7, 2017. For the Social Superstar category, the "Social Voting Period 1" shall be deemed the timeframe commencing on May 9, 2017 through June 6, 2017 at 11:59 PM ET. The Social Voting Period 1 and the Social Voting Period 2 shall collectively be referred to herein as the "Social Voting Period".For the Video of the Year category, the "VOTY Voting Period 1" shall be deemed the General Voting Period timeframe, with the Video of the Year category resuming pursuant to the below VOTY Voting Period 2 guidelines.


VOTING BY WEBSITE DURING THE GENERAL VOTING PERIOD: Click the web vote button next to the nominee for whom you want to vote. Then, follow the instructions to vote (NOTE: you will have to log in to vote by web by either registering on cmt.com (if not already registered) or using your login credentials from any of the following: CMT.com, Facebook, or Google. You will be limited to one (1) vote per category using this method during the General Voting Period.


If you are accessing the Website using a mobile device, you must (a) have a plan with a wireless carrier which includes a data service and (b) use a wireless device that is capable of accessing the Internet. Voting via mobile device shall be offered on an "as is" basis and may not be available in all areas of the U.S or Canada. at all times during the Voting Periods. Voting via mobile device may cease to be available to you in the event of product, software, coverage or other service changes made by your wireless carrier.


Standard data rates and other charges may apply all as provided in your wireless service rate plan. (Please contact your wireless carrier for pricing plans and details).


VOTING BY HASHTAG DURING THE SOCIAL VOTING PERIOD each artist will have an assigned hashtag. To vote for a nominated artist, you must include the artist's assigned hashtag together with the #CMTAWARDS hashtag or you must follow the instructions in any call to action (e.g. reply, "retweet" or "post") provided in any tweet/Instagram post message received from VMN (the "Call to Action Messaging"). The Call to Action Messaging will ask voters to "tweet", "share" or "post" including the hashtags #CMTAWARDS and #VOTE[ARTISTNAME] (the "Vote Hashtags" ). You may respond to any of the Call to Action Messaging during the Social Voting Period by sending the two (2) Vote Hashtags in accordance with the above specifications to count as one (1) "Vote". For Twitter, retweets will count as valid votes. Votes that exceed 140 characters will not count. Multiple Tweets in one original Tweet or Instagram post will not count as valid votes. Submissions with the Vote Hashtags constitute your acceptance of these Official Rules. Votes must be submitted as directed and within the timeframe specified by VMN. The failure of an entrant to comply with the foregoing may result in an incomplete or disqualified Vote. VMN has the sole discretion to determine whether a submission qualifies as a Vote. During the Social Voting Period 1, you can vote 10 times per valid Twitter or Instagram handle per day from May 9, 2017 beginning at 9:30am ET until June 6, 2017 at 11:59:59pm ET. Beginning with the Social Voting Period 2 (as defined below), but specifically on June 7, 2017 from 12:00am ET to the close of the vote at 9:00pm ET, the vote limit will increase to 50 votes per handle.


Entries must be submitted in accordance with the Instagram Terms of Use (http://instagram.com/about/legal/terms/) and Twitter's Terms of Service (https://twitter.com/tos). Your Instagram and Twitter account privacy settings must be set to "Off" or your entries may not be visible to Sponsor and may not thus be received. If you do not have an Instagram account, visit http://www.Instagram.com. If you do not have a Twitter account, visit http://www.twitter.com. Registration for Instagram requires downloading the free applications to your mobile device and following the on-screen instructions to create a new account. The Instagram app is available for download from iTunes iTunes or directly from the App Store on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad or from the Google Play store on your Android device. The Twitter app is available for download on your mobile device by visiting https://twitter.com/download.


Any individual who has not reached the age of majority in his/her state of residence should obtain the consent of the responsible party of the wireless device prior to submitting a vote if voting by text message or mobile web.


Collectively, the VOTY Voting Period 1, VOTY Voting Period 2, General Voting Period, the Social Voting Period 1 and Social Voting Period 2 shall be known as the "Voting Periods", subject to change in VMN's sole discretion.


Votes will not be accepted prior to or after these Voting Periods and only votes applicable to specific categories will be accepted. All votes submitted become the sole property of VMN and will not be acknowledged or returned.


(b) The top 6 nominees who receive the most votes in the Video of the Year category during the VOTY Voting Period 1 will be announced the morning of the Show and the winner of Video of the Year will be determined in the VOTY Voting Period 2 as described below. The Social Superstar nominees will also be announced at the top of the Awards Show and the winner of the Social Superstar will be determined in the Social Voting Period 2 as described below. Winners for the General Voting Period categories will be announced during the airing of the Awards Show on CMT on June 7, 2017 (see your local listings for show dates and times).


4. How To Vote during Phase 2


(a) Video of the Year Voting Period 2: At the end of the VOTY Voting Period 1, the top 6 nominees for Video of the Year will move on to the Video of the Year Voting Period 2 ("VOTY Voting Period 2") with all previous votes erased and the tabulation beginning at "0" for each nominee in this VOTY Voting Period 2 phase. The VOTY Voting Period 2 phase will commence on June 7, 2017 at the end of the Video of the Year Finalist special airing on CMT which is anticipated to be at 8:00 AM EST and shall continue through and end (to be announced during the live broadcast of the Awards Show on June 7, 2017 before the 10:00 PM ET timeline, subject to change in VMN's sole discretion.


The Winner for the VOTY Voting Period 2 category will be announced on or around June 7, 2017 during the Awards Show at a time to be determined and subject to change in VMN's sole discretion.


VOTING BY WEBSITE DURING THE VOTY VOTING PERIOD 2: Click the web vote button next to the nominee for whom you want to vote. Then, follow the instructions to vote (NOTE: you will have to log in to vote by web by either registering on cmt.com (if not already registered) or using your login credentials from any of the following: CMT.com, Facebook, or Google. You will be able to vote as many times as you wish using this method during the VOTY Voting Period 2.


If you are accessing the Website using a mobile device, you must (a) have a plan with wireless carrier which includes a data service and (b) use a wireless device that is capable of accessing the Internet. Voting via mobile device shall be offered on an "as is" basis and may not be available in all areas at all times during the Voting Periods. (b) Social Voting Period 2: beginning at 12:00am ET on June 7, 2017 and shall continue through and end (to be announced during the live broadcast of the Awards Show on June 7, 2017 before the 10:00 PM ET timeline, subject to change in VMN's sole discretion; (the "Social Voting Period 2"). The Social Voting Period 2 shall begin with the previous Social Voting Period 1 vote tabulations continuing into the Social Voting Period 2 phase. Beginning with the Social Voting Period 2, you will be limited to fifty (50) votes per handle.


SEE ABOVE VOTING BY HASHTAG instructions for this Social Voting Period 2 timeframe. The Winner for the Social Voting Period category will be announced on or around June 7, 2017 during the Awards Show at a time to be determined and subject to change in VMN's sole discretion.


5. General Terms


Use of any device to automate a vote is prohibited, including but not limited to software-generated, robotic, programmed, script, macro or other automated votes. VMN reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual (and remove any votes from that individual) it suspects or finds: (i) to have used a software-generated, robotic, programmed, script, macro or other automated online/WAP or texting vote; (ii) to have tampered with the voting process; (iii) to be acting in violation of these Voting Rules; or (iv) to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. VMN reserves the right to remove votes at its sole discretion.


If, for any reason, any aspect of this voting process is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical or system failures or disruption, 'Acts of God' or terrorist attacks, or any other causes beyond the control of VMN which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the voting process or for any reason VMN deems it necessary, VMN reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the voting process and reserves the right in its sole discretion to determine the winner(s). VMN reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with any aspect of the voting process or the operation of the voting process or website; to be acting in violation of these voting rules; or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person and void all associated votes.


You participate in this voting process at your own risk. VMN, Telescope, Inc., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Google or any of their respective parent companies, affiliated companies, related companies, sponsors, subsidiaries and advertising agencies, and any entity associated with this voting process ("Released Parties") are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) difficulty accessing telecom systems; (ii) errors in transmission; (iii) service outage or delays or for any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of email or players on account of any technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or combination thereof; (iv) any incomplete, lost, late, delayed, misdirected or garbled votes or failure to receive votes; (v) injury or damage to you or to any other person's computer or mobile phone related to or resulting from participating in, or downloading materials or software, or attempts to participate in or download materials or software related to this voting process or (vi) failures or malfunctions of phones (including wireless phones/handsets), phone lines or telephone systems, cellular equipment towers, telephone systems or wireless services or other communications malfunctions. Released Parties are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Released Parties that may cause the voting to be disrupted or corrupted; (ii) typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the Official Voting Rules or (iii) any errors in the announcement of potential winner(s).


Participants assume all liability for any injury or damages caused or claimed to be caused by his or her participation in the voting opportunity described in these Official Voting Rules, and release Released Parties and any party associated with the production or exhibition of this Show and their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, parents, subsidiaries and affiliates from any such claim or liability.


By participating in this voting process, you agree to be bound by these Official Voting Rules. Failure to comply with the Official Voting Rules may result in a voter's disqualification solely at the discretion of VMN. VMN reserves the right to modify these Official Voting Rules at any time in VMN's sole discretion.


All interpretations of these Official Voting Rules and the decisions of VMN relating to this voting process are final.


The nominee, who receives the highest number of valid votes in each category, as determined by VMN in its sole discretion, will be deemed the winner of the category. In the event of a dispute or tie or if for any other reason VMN deems it necessary or appropriate, VMN reserves the right to make the final determination as to which of the nominees will be declared the winner of the category. Nominees are prohibited from obtaining votes by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, as determined by VMN in its sole discretion.


The voting process is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws. Caution: Any attempt by you or any other individual to deliberately damage or tamper with the voting process, or otherwise undermine the legitimate operation of the voting is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made. Released Parties reserve the right to seek damages (including attorneys' fees) and/or other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Who can vote?

Anyone 13 years of age or older with a registered CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google account will be able to cast their vote online.


When can I vote?

Voting opens at 9.30 AM ET on May 9, 2017 and ends on June 5, 2017 at 12:01 AM ET ("General Voting Period 1").


Social Voting opens at 9.30 AM ET on May 9, 2017 and ends on June 6, 2017 at 11:59 PM ET ("Social Voting Period 1").


"Video of the Year Voting Period 2" opens at approximately 8:00 AM ET on June 7, 2017 and ends at approximately 10:00 PM ET on June 7, 2017.


"Social Voting Period 2" opens at approximately 12:00 AM ET on June 7, 2017 and ends at approximately 10:00 PM ET on June 7, 2017.


Votes will not be accepted prior to or after these respective voting periods.


How do I vote?

If you have a CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google account, you can vote online at www.cmt.com during the General Voting Period 1 and Video of the Year Voting Period 2. If you do not already have a CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google account, you will need to create one before being able to vote online for the 2017 CMT Music Awards nominees. Once you have your account, go to the category for which you would like to vote. If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted to login. Follow the instructions for logging into your CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google account to login. Once you are logged in, you can click the "Vote" button next to the nominee for which you would like to vote. During the Social Voting Period 1 and Social Voting Period 2 you may vote by following the instructions provided in any Call to Action Messaging from VMN on Twitter/Instagram, including sending the two voting hashtags (you must include the artist's assigned hashtag together with the #CMTAWARDS). Voters may be subject to standard fees imposed by their internet service provider and/or mobile device provider. Votes cast outside of the respective voting window will be invalid.


How many times can I vote?

You may vote once per category during the General Voting Period 1.


You may vote ten times per valid Twitter or Instagram handle per day during the Social Voting Period 1.


You may vote an unlimited number of times during the Video of the Year Voting Period 2.


You may vote fifty times per valid Twitter or Instagram handle during the Social Voting Period 2.


Why do you need a CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google account to vote online?

Logging into your account is a key security feature to guard against voting fraud. If you do not already have an account on one of the following: CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google, you will need to create one before being able to vote for the 2017 CMT Music Awards nominees.


What are the minimum software requirements for voting online?

To vote online, you must have an active CMT.com, Facebook, Twitter Instagram or Google account, have Macromedia Flash enabled, have javascript enabled and have cookies enabled.


How do I find out the results?

The results will be revealed live during the 2017 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday June 7th on CMT (see your local listings for show dates and times).
