| Q. | Who is eligible to become a registered member of CMT.com? |
| A. | This Site is offered and made available only to users 13 years of age or older who reside in the United States of America. Terms of Use |
| Q. | Why would I want to register? |
| A. | Registration to CMT.com allows you to post on our message boards, and allows you to receive our free weekly YouHeardIt newsletter. |
| Q. | Does it cost anything to become a member of CMT.com? |
| A. | No, it is absolutely free to join CMT.com. Just go to our Join page. Your registration is also valid for MTV.com and VH1.com. |
| Q. | How do I register to become a CMT.com member? |
| A. | Register to join CMT.com here. You can also manage your CMT.com experience in the user preferences section. You will have to choose a username and password, as well as provide your e-mail address and date of birth. You also have the option of giving us your ZIP code. |
| Q. | Are there any rules for creating a username and password? |
| A. | Your username must have between 4-16 characters and cannot have any spaces or special characters. Your password is case sensitive and should have at least four (4) characters. |
| Q. | I am trying to register, but it keeps asking me for a different username. |
| A. | No other CMT.com, VH1.com and MTV.com member can have the same username as you. If the name you want is already taken, you need to try a different username. |
| Q. | Why do you need my e-mail address? |
| A. | CMT.com will not sell your information to a company that'll jam your e-mail with spam and junk. We only use your information internally and will never hand it over to someone else without your permission. We want your e-mail address so we can make your CMT.com experience more enjoyable. |
| Q. | Why do you need my birth date? |
| A. | We must have your birth date. It's the law! As of April 21, 2000, CMT.com can no longer accept registrations from children under the age of 13 due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). COPPA was enacted to prevent Web sites from giving or receiving information from children without their parents' consent. You can learn more about COPPA at the Federal Trade Commission Web site. |
| Q. | Why do you need my zip code? |
| A. | You must enter your zip code to indicate that you are a resident of the United States of America. |
| Q. | How do I sign in? |
| A. | If you're a member of CMT.com and you have selected "automatic login" on the login page, then you'll be automatically signed in when you visit our site. If you share a computer with other people or are using a different computer, just click the link at the top of our homepage to login. |
| Q. | I forgot my username. |
| A. | We are not able to retrieve your username. After you register, be sure to save your confirmation letter, which states your username and password. If you do not remember your username, you will need to re-register with a different name and password. |
| Q. | I forgot my password. |
| A. | If you have forgotten your password, but you know the e-mail address you registered with, we can send you this information. Just go to user preferences and click "forgot password." Enter your e-mail address and you will receive a message with your username and password. Please note: You must use the same e-mail address that you entered when you registered. If you have changed e-mail addresses since then, you will need to re-register with a different username and password. |
| Q. | Can I change my account information? |
| A. | You cannot change your username -- sorry! If you want a different username, you should open an additional account. To change your password or e-mail address, go to the user info section in user preferences and update your account information. |
| Q. | What are cookies? Do I have to accept them? |
| A. | Cookies are small text files on your computer created by a Web site that wants to "remember" information about you -- generally things you want it to know, such as settings and preferences. Spooky, huh? Not really. It's just a very simple way for businesses to customize your experience on their site.
You do not have to accept our cookies, but we encourage you to do so. It will help us to remember who you are and what your interests are the next time you visit our site. Also, you will need to enable cookies in order for you to be able to log in successfully. |
