Willie Nelson wins his first entertainer of the year award, but Charlie Daniels wins the most awards of the night. The fiddling singer-songwriter earns instrumental group and instrumentalist, plus his hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is named single of the year. Kenny Rogers has one of the most successful nights of his career. Not only does he host the 13th annual CMA Awards show, he wins the male vocalist honor, and his record, The Gambler, is named album of the year. The title track also gives writer Don Schlitz the song of the year trophy. Barbara Mandrell is the new female vocalist winner, and the Statler Brothers regain their vocal group title. Longtime publicist Hubert Long and singer Hank Snow are this year's Country Music Hall of Fame inductees.
