24th Annual CMA Awards Summary

Reba McEntire and Randy Travis share hosting duties at the 24th annual CMA Awards. While several industry veterans remain award show favorites, there's a new crop of contenders getting attention. Clint Black earns male vocalist, and Kathy Mattea takes home the female vocalist trophy. Newcomer Garth Brooks wins two awards including Horizon and music video for his hit, "The Dance." The Kentucky Headhunters win vocal group of the year, and their record Pickin' On Nashville takes the album of the year award. Vince Gill's now classic "When I Call Your Name" is named single of the year. The duet "Till a Tear Becomes a Rose" wins vocal event for the husband-and-wife team of Lorrie Morgan and Keith Whitley. George Strait and the Judds continue to reign as the entertainer and vocal duo of the year winners, respectively. During the show, the Country Music Hall of Fame welcomes a tearful Tennessee Ernie Ford. Newcomer Mary Chapin Carpenter receives a standing ovation for her performance of "Opening Act." Legends Roy Rogers, George Jones, Tammy Wynette join Randy Travis on the song "Heroes."
