28th Annual CMA Awards Summary
Vince Gill goes solo for the first time hosting the event by himself. He wins both male vocalist and the coveted entertainer
of the year honor. Pam Tillis wins her first female vocalist CMA award, and newcomer John Michael Montgomery earns the Horizon
Award and single of the year for "I Swear." Martina McBride makes her mark by collecting the music video award for "Independence
Day," while Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee" earns the song of the year honor. Diamond Rio and Brooks & Dunn continue to win
vocal group and vocal duo honors respectively. "Does He Love You" gives Reba McEntire and Linda Davis the vocal event award,
and a star-studded tribute to the Eagles takes home the album of the year CMA award. During the show, rock legend Little
Richard performs with both Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tanya Tucker. Lyle Lovett, who attends with then-wife actress Julia Roberts,
performs with fellow Texas band Asleep at the Wheel. Several artists salute the music of Merle Haggard as he is inducted into
the Country Music Hall of Fame.
