Newcomers the Dixie Chicks make their mark on the CMA landscape with their two wins. The trio from Texas capture the Horizon Award and the vocal group of the year honor. It is the first time that an all-female group wins the CMA award in that category. George Strait wins his third consecutive male vocalist trophy, while Brooks & Dunn receive their seventh vocal duo award. Trisha Yearwood is named female vocalist, and her future husband, Garth Brooks, takes the entertainer of the year nod. Everywhere by Tim McGraw earns album of the year, and wife Faith Hill wins music video of the year honors for her hit, "This Kiss." Vocal event of the year goes to the distinct voices of Patty Loveless and George Jones in "You Don't Seem to Miss Me." Gaylord Entertainment president and CEO E.W. "Bud" Wendell joins country legends Elvis Presley, Tammy Wynette and George Morgan as this year's inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
