Nichols Earns First Award

Tue. April 08.2003

Joe Nichols collected his first major award when "Brokenheartsville" won breakthrough video at CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards. Before scoring his first hit, "The Impossible," Nichols performed at Rippy's, a restaurant in downtown Nashville. Noting that Rippy's is located directly across the street from the arena where the Flameworthy awards show was being held, Nichols said, "It's kind of wild. It's such a long time and a long road between here and there, but it's only 50 feet away." Asked whether the award raises the bar for future videos, Nichols replied, "Absolutely, I think so. It elevates the whole playing field for me. I had a lot of big shoes to fill before this night, and now they just got a whole lot bigger."
