Thu. February 20.2003

The star power keeps getting hotter for the CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards, airing live on Monday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CMT: Country Music Television. Just added to the live performance lineup are three of country’s hottest multi-million selling artists, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith and Rascal Flatts. Jackson, Keith and Rascal Flatts join the previously announced CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards performers including Shania Twain, Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

In 2002 Jackson’s multi-platinum album, Drive, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s pop and country album sales charts and held the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart for four weeks. In addition to winning three ACM Awards, Jackson recently broke a record with his 10 CMA Award nominations and took home five trophies at the awards ceremony including entertainer of the year, male vocalist of the year, album of the year, single of the year and song of the year. In January 2003, Jackson earned four Grammy Award nominations including a nod in the all-genre general song of the year category for his captivating Sept. 11 tribute, “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).”

Named Billboard Monitor’s No. 1 Country Artist of the year as well as R&R’s No. 1 Country Artist (MVP Overall and Male), Keith enjoyed a banner year in 2002. His latest DreamWorks album Unleashed has already surpassed two million in sales, thanks to hit singles like “Who’s Your Daddy?” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).” Over the last decade, Keith has amassed sixteen No. 1 hits, along with eight gold and platinum albums. Unleashed captured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Country and Billboard 200 music charts during its first week of sales. Hit albums include 1999’s How Do You Like Me Now?!, his Greatest Hits collection, and 2001’s Pull My Chain.

Rascal Flatts is one of the hottest new touring acts on the music scene right now. With two platinum albums under their belts (one of which, Melt, debuted at No.1) plus a 2002 CMA Horizon Award and 2001 ACM award for new vocal group, Rascal Flatts -- Gary, Jay and Joe Don -- ended 2002 as the seventh best selling artist of the year. Their new song “Love You Out Loud” has become their fastest rising single to date.

The show’s debut telecast swept multiple demographic groups to make CMT the No. 1 rated basic cable network among women ages 18-49 and women ages 25-54 during the time period. In addition, the awards show premiere was the highest rated commercial telecast in CMT history among viewers ages 18-49 -- and it was the second highest rated telecast among viewers ages 18-49 when compared to all basic cable network shows for the entire day’s programming (June 12, 2002).
