Besieged novelist and country songwriter Alice Randall will discuss her forthcoming book, The Wind Done Gone, and the legal efforts to stifle it, Wednesday, June 6 at Davis-Kidd Booksellers in Nashville. The program will start at 6 p.m. Initially, Randall was scheduled to autograph her new Houghton Mifflin novel on that date, but a federal court issued an injunction against its publication on April 20. The injunction was ordered in response to a complaint lodged against Randall by Margaret Mitchell’s estate on March 16, alleging the book infringed the copyright of Mitchell’s 1936 classic, Gone With the Wind. However, Houghton Mifflin appealed the ruling and dozens of Randall’s fellow authors and scholars came to her defense. On Friday (May 25), a three-judge panel lifted the injunction. Barring further legal curbs, the book should be in stores by the last week of June. Randall is also a country songwriter. Her biggest hit to date was "XXX’s And OOO’s (An American Girl)," which she co-wrote with Matraca Berg. It was a No. 1 single for two weeks for Trisha Yearwood in 1994.
