Tillis, Label Part Ways

Pam Tillis and Arista Nashville have parted ways after 12 years and six studio albums. “I’ve had a wonderful and lengthy relationship with Arista Nashville,” the singer said in a statement on Tuesday (June 19). “But I’ve decided it’s time for me to try some new musical directions. I’m looking forward to some new challenges and adventures and having some room to experiment.” The 1994 Country Music Association female vocalist of the year signed with Arista in 1989 after a brief stint on Warner Bros. Her latest album, Thunder & Roses, came out in March and rose to No. 24 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Tillis sold over 5 million albums on Arista according to a news release from the label. “Pam has been a joy to work with,” said Joe Galante, chairman, RCA Label Group/Nashville, parent company of Arista Nashville. “I have such a respect for her distinctive artistry, her wonderful songwriting and vocal talents. We at the record company can only hope that her incredible past with us serves as a firm platform for the best possible future.” 06/19/01
