Grant Turner to be Honored at Uncle Dave Macon Days

Late Country Music Hall of Fame member Grant Turner will be honored with the Heritage Award at the 24th annual Uncle Dave Macon Days, July 13-15, at Cannonsburgh Village in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Known as “The Voice of the Grand Ole Opry,” Turner was an announcer and disc jockey for WSM-AM (650) from 1944 until his death in 1991. Turner’s widow, Lorene, will accept his award during a presentation on July 14. Earl Scruggs , Jack Greene , The Whites , Chalee Tennison , Stonewall Jackson and others will participate in the 40-minute “Salute to Grant Turner: The Opry Years.” 06/29/01
