Carlene Carter and her boyfriend, Howie Epstein, are in trouble again. The couple are being sued by the owners of Kiki's All Breed Grooming outside Santa Fe, N.M. The kennel alleges that Carter and Epstein owe more than $22,000 in fees for dogs they left to be boarded in 1999 and 2000. Carter is the daughter of June Carter Cash and Carl Smith and the stepdaughter of Johnny Cash. Epstein plays bass for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In June, the couple were arrested in Albuquerque, N.M., and charged with drug possession and car theft. The cases against Carter and Epstein were dismissed without prejudice, meaning they could be refiled at a later date. 08/02/01
