Ralph Stanley Profiled in New Yorker

Bluegrass traditionalist Ralph Stanley is the subject of a seven-page profile in the Aug. 20&27 double-issue of The New Yorker. Newsweek music critic and novelist David Gates authored the piece, which covers Stanley’s personal life and musical achievements through his triumphant Carnegie Hall appearance with the O Brother, Where Art Thou? cast in June. Other performers featured in this issue devoted to popular music are Radiohead, Jay-Z, PJ Harvey and Ben Webster. 08/15/01
