Strait Will Play Astrodome’s ‘Farewell Party’

George Strait plans to return to the biggest annual musical event in Texas, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The singer, who last played the rodeo four years ago, has agreed to headline the March 3, 2002, concert that will be the last such performance in the Reliant Astrodome. The facility has hosted the event for 37 years. Strait also has signed to play the first rodeo performance in the old Astrodome’s successor, the new Reliant Stadium, in 2003. The 2002 rodeo and concert series runs from Feb. 12 to March 3. Country and pop artists perform daily. Tickets for Strait’s concert go on sale Saturday (Aug. 25) through Ticketmaster and the Reliant Park box office. 08/22/01
