Martina McBride Moved by Vigil Experience

With her powerful voice, Martina McBride has received many invitations to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” But singing it Wednesday night in Nashville, at a vigil for terrorist victims and the mourning nation, was “an experience,” she tells “We sing it at football games and we sing it at baseball games and it’s all with a really joyous, jubilant spirit,” McBride says. “It was a really different experience to sing it at something like this. It was hard to get through it. It’s just so powerful and so strong. I don’t ever take it for granted, but I never really experienced the full weight of it like I did last night. It was heavy.” 09/13/01
