Martina McBride Moved by Vigil Experience

With her powerful voice, Martina McBride has received many invitations to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” But singing it Wednesday night in Nashville, at a vigil for terrorist victims and the mourning nation, was “an experience,” she tells country.com. “We sing it at football games and we sing it at baseball games and it’s all with a really joyous, jubilant spirit,” McBride says. “It was a really different experience to sing it at something like this. It was hard to get through it. It’s just so powerful and so strong. I don’t ever take it for granted, but I never really experienced the full weight of it like I did last night. It was heavy.” 09/13/01
