Opry Plans Birthday Celebration

The Grand Ole Opry has proclaimed October “Opry Homecoming Month,” and the country music institution will celebrate its 76th birthday on Oct. 13 in Nashville. A “Homecoming Picnic” begins at 11:30 a.m. on the Opry Plaza, outside the Grand Ole Opry House, and will include live music, barbecue, a pie auction (desserts baked by Opry members), a celebrity dunking booth and other family events. Opry members will sign autographs in the Opry Museum. The Bill Monroe Bluegrass Celebration featuring Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, The Osborne Brothers and Mike Snider takes place at 1 p.m in the Grand Ole Opry House. Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Travis Tritt, Pam Tillis, George Jones and Steve Wariner are confirmed to perform on the Grand Ole Opry during the weekend (Oct. 12-13). 10/01/01
