Bogguss Readies Self-Released Christmas Set

Suzy Bogguss will release Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Nov. 1 on her own label, Loyal Dutchess Records. The holiday set includes a batch of new recordings mixed with three previously-unreleased songs she cut for her former label, Capitol Records. Guitar legend Chet Atkins, who died in June, plays on "Mr. Santa" and "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." Ricky Skaggs guests on "Mr. Santa" and Delbert McClinton duets with Bogguss on "Baby, It's Cold Outside." "I worked with some long-time musician friends who I knew would really jive with the swing songs on this album," Bogguss said in a statement. She describes the album’s sound as "sparsely orchestrated ... a lot of upright bass and brushes, as if you were seeing a combo in a small club. I think it has a very intimate appeal." The singer will tour in support of the album during the Christmas season. The album will be available through her Web site, www.suzybogguss.com. 10/22/01
