Garth’s a Pepper This Weekend

Dr Pepper will roll out “Garth Music,” a 30-second commercial in music video format, on Saturday (Nov. 3). The spot will air on network, cable and local television. Brooks sings a tune with lyrics that go, “Be you, do what you do, Dr Pepper.” The soft-drink company will use the Brooks spots exclusively for 90 days; some will carry a five-second tag promoting Brooks’ Scarecrow CD, out Nov. 13. From Nov. 13-21, consumers can use a coupon to get $2 off the CD when buying two 12-packs of Dr Pepper at all Kmart stores. “I’ve been a Dr Pepper fan forever,” Brooks says in a news release. His first product endorsement comes for something “I actually have in my house,” he says. Another spot, “Garth Life” will air in 2002 and feature Brooks at home in Oklahoma. Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, Latin star Thalia and hip-hop artists Black Eyed Peas will join the soda campaign in 2002. 10/31/01
