Few Country Stars Will Perform New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve falls on a Monday this year, a night on which it appears that most country music stars have decided to stay home. Of all the most recent Country Music Association award winners, only Sara Evans , who won the top music video prize, will be trodding the boards as 2001 segues into 2002.

Evans will share the stage at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville that evening with Kenny Chesney , Phil Vassar and Jamie O’Neal . This package boasts the most starpower of any country show on this final holiday of the year.

According to information gathered from talent managers, booking agents and Pollstar magazine, these are other country performers who will be in the spotlight during that switching hour when the confetti hits the fans:

Wynonna , at the Reno Hilton in Reno, Nev.; Gary Allan , Billy Bob’s, Fort Worth, Texas; Chris Cagle , The Round Up, Davie, Fla.; David Ball , J. R.’s Executive Inn, Paducah, Ky.; Kentucky HeadHunters , Cactus Pete’s, Jackpot, Nev.

Also, Tracy Lawrence , Sunwave Centre, Salmon Arm, British Columbia; the Bellamy Brothers , Red Lion Inn & Casino, Elko, Nev.; Blake Shelton , Cowboys Red River, Dallas, Texas; Rascal Flatts , Cowboys, Kennesaw, Ga.; Merle Haggard , Peery’s Egyptian Theater, Ogden, Utah; and Trick Pony , The Beaumont Club, Kansas City, Mo.
