Kristofferson Gets a Tribute CD

Rockers John Doe, Tom Verlaine and Kelly Hogan are part of a 17-track album paying tribute to singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson. San Francisco-based writer Nick Tangborn assembled the cast for Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down: A Tribute to Kris Kristofferson and will release it in late February on his own label, Jackpine Social Club, RollingStone.com reports. Doe, known for his work with seminal L.A. punk group X, will do “Me and Bobby McGee.” Also contributing: Mark Kozelek of Red House Painters; the Mother Hips; Jon Langford of the Mekons; Polara; and Stephen Bruton, Kristofferson’s guitarist. Roots rocker Hogan chose “Why Me.” 01/09/02
