Nelson, Messina Help ‘Rockies’ Raise $1 Mil

The recent Country in the Rockies event raised $1 million for cancer research through silent and live auctions, registration fees and celebrity bartender and concert events, according to a news release. Nearly 300 participants gathered at Club Med in Crested Butte, Colo., for a range of activities including skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and horseback riding. Attendees also went to parties, guitar pulls and presentations by nationally known cancer researchers. Jo Dee Messina and Willie Nelson each gave concerts to aid the cause. Gary Morris hosted a songwriters’ night. Proceeds go to the Frances Williams Preston Laboratories at the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, a division of the T.J. Martell Foundation. 02/11/02
