Brooks & Dunn and ZZ Top Will Swap Tunes

Brooks & Dunn will team up with veteran Texas boogie-rock trio ZZ Top on March 3 to tape an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads, a monthly series that explores the intersection of country and other musical genres through live performances and interviews. “Ron [Dunn] and I have been huge ZZ Top fans since even before we were together,” Kix Brooks said in a statement. The two acts met this week in Houston to figure out their plans for the show. “[The] pre-production was a lot of laughs, but we can’t wait to get into making music,” Brooks said. “Now that’s gonna be a dream.” ZZ Top performs at the Houston Rodeo Thursday (Feb. 21), marking the trio’s first major concert appearance since singer-bassist Dusty Hill was diagnosed with hepatitis C in May 2000. Brooks & Dunn and ZZ Top will tape their performances in front of a small audience in a studio located in the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. Their episode will debut on CMT on April 21 as the third installment in the series, following previous CMT Crossroads pairings of Lucinda Williams and Elvis Costello and Hank Williams Jr. and Kid Rock. 02/21/02
