UK Gives Lynn Her Doctorate

Illness forced Loretta Lynn to miss the ceremony Saturday in Lexington, Ky., at which she received an honorary doctor of arts degree from the University of Kentucky. Her brother, Herman Webb, of Butcher Hollow, Ky., accepted the award on her behalf, the Associated Press reports. James Holsinger Jr., senior vice president of the University of Kentucky, called Lynn “a traveling ambassador for both the entertainment world and the state of Kentucky.” Lynn was born in Butcher Hollow. She was admitted to a Forth Worth, Texas, hospital Feb. 23 for severe abdominal pains. She was released, and her Nashville doctor diagnosed the problem as an intestinal virus. 03/11/02
