Tillis Joins Sony Roster, Records Tribute to Dad

Former CMA female vocalist of the year Pam Tillis officially has joined Sony’s Nashville roster, the label announced Thursday (March 21). As reported by CMT.com in February, Tillis will release a tribute album to her father, country singer Mel Tillis, due July 30 on the label’s Columbia/Lucky Dog Records imprint. “A lot of people don’t realize what an incredible career my dad has had and how many No. 1 hit songs he wrote, recorded, and won awards for,” Tillis said in a statement. “These aren’t just songs I love; these are my earliest musical memories. Quite literally, these were the songs that rocked my cradle — especially since my mom couldn’t carry a tune!” Mel Tillis’ many songwriting credits include “Detroit City,” “I Ain’t Never” and “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town.” Pam Tillis produced eight songs on the upcoming album, and Asleep at the Wheels’ Ray Benson produced the remaining four. Tillis parted ways with Arista Nashville in June after 12 years and six studio albums.03/21/02
