Brad Paisley , who chooses fishing over a relationship in his latest hit, “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishing Song),” hosted the third annual Hook, Line & Singer fishing tournament Friday (April 26) at Cedar Creek Yacht club outside Nashville.
The event is a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Paisley fished in the tourney last year. This is his first year as host. “I caught a little fish but nothing worth keeping,” Paisley said upon returning to the dock with songwriter Tim Owens after being on the water for several hours.
Country artists Elizabeth Cook, Tommy Shane Steiner and newcomer Tebey Ottoh joined music industry executives and songwriters to raise money for the Memphis hospital.
Twenty-nine teams competed for prizes. The top four were recognized in an awards presentation emceed by Paisley. The Theis/Smith team won with a catch of almost 5 pounds.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital seeks to find cures for children with catastrophic illnesses through research and treatment. Last year’s Hook, Line & Singer tournament raised $16,000; spokeswoman Molly Beebe said organizers hope to exceed that amount this year.
