Gruene Hall Escapes Flooding

Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, was not affected by recent flooding in Uvalde County, says one of the building’s owners, Mary Jane Nailey. Built in the 1880s on a bluff within the small village of Gruene (pronounced “green”), near New Braunfels, the dance hall is a popular venue among Texas musicians such as Pat Green, Jack Ingram and Jerry Jeff Walker. As a result of the flooding, Gov. Rick Perry declared Uvalde County a federal disaster area, as well as 26 other Texas counties. 07/08/02
