Kenny Rogers' Older Brother Dies

Lelan Rogers, older brother of country star Kenny Rogers, died Monday (July 22) at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville from respiratory complications. The eldest child of seven, Lelan Rogers was 74 years old. He worked in many facets of the music industry and is remembered as a pioneer of rock music in Texas. Rogers signed and produced the 13th Floor Elevators, a seminal psychedelic rock band. The Elevators later moved to San Francisco and predated and influenced the bands making up what came to be known as the San Francisco Sound. Visitation was scheduled in Nashville at the Broadway Chapel on Wednesday (July 24) from 3-6 p.m., with funeral services on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Roesch Patton Chapel. 07/23/02
