Opry Celebrates Milestone With Minnie Pearl Tribute

Vince Gill, Clint Black and Steve Wariner will be among those paying tribute to the late Minnie Pearl when the Grand Ole Opry celebrates its 4000th consecutive Saturday night radio broadcast on Aug. 31. In addition to honoring the Country Music Hall of Fame member, the evening will also include the presentation of the 2002 Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award. Kathy Mattea, last year’s winner, will present the award that honors outstanding humanitarian and community contributions. Wariner plans to perform Pearl’s favorite song, “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?” He says, “As a performer, she was the consummate pro. Always on, always on top of her game. She was an angel with a wicked sense of humor.” The tribute will be televised on CMT’s Grand Ole Opry Live. The WSM-AM broadcast of the Opry can be heard on the Internet at www.opry.com and www.wsmonline.com. more … 08/16/02
