Brooks, Yearwood Among Purcell Mourners

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were among the musical luminaries who attended funeral services Monday (Aug. 26) for Nashville mastering engineer Denny Purcell. (A mastering engineer does the final adjustment and balancing of sound before a record is manufactured.) Purcell, who was 51, was found dead in his office at Georgetown Masters on Aug. 22. A source who attended the services at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home reports that Nanci Griffith sang “It’s a Hard Life” and John Prine “Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow).” Musician-songwriters Josh Leo and Vince Melamed performed “In My Life.” Singer Gail Davies also spoke to the mourners about Purcell’s importance to producers and recording artists. 8/27/02
