Cline, Lynn and Wynette Lead '40 Greatest' List

Almost four decades after her tragic death, Patsy Cline remains the most important woman in the country music history, according to a panel of artists, music historians, music journalists and music industry professionals. Cline topped the list revealed Friday (Aug. 30) on the premiere of CMT 40 Greatest Women of Country Music. Cline’s influence crosses the generations -- from Loretta Lynn to k.d. lang to LeAnn Rimes. Others in the Greatest Women of Country Music Top 10 include Tammy Wynette, Lynn, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, Maybelle Carter, Connie Smith and Trisha Yearwood. Encore presentations of CMT 40 Greatest Women of Country Music will be telecast Sunday (Sept. 1) at 12 p.m. ET/PT and Monday (Sept. 2) at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
