Gordon Lightfoot Hospitalized

Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot remains hospitalized in Hamilton, Ontario following emergency surgery Sunday night (Sept. 8). Lightfoot, 63, began experiencing severe abdominal pains a few hours before a concert in his hometown of Orillia, Ontario. Lightfoot scored a pop hit in 1971 with “If You Could Read My Mind” and later enjoyed moderate success on the country charts with other pop hits, including “Carefree Highway,” “Rainy Day People” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” His songwriting credits include Marty Robbins’ 1965 No. 1 hit, “Ribbon of Darkness.” 09/09/02
