Funeral services for Jimmy Stoneman, who sang and played bass in the Stoneman Family, will be held Wednesday (Sept. 25) at Mount Olivet Funeral Home in Nashville. Mr. Stoneman, 65, died Sunday (Sept. 23) at a Smyrna, Tenn., nursing home following a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. His father, Ernest "Pop" Stoneman, formed the Stoneman Family band in the 1940s. Melding bluegrass and country music, the group recorded for the Starday, World Pacific, MGM and RCA labels and won the CMA's vocal group of the year award in 1967. 09/24/02
