Cline Items Will Be Auctioned

Twenty of Patsy Cline’s stage outfits and 21 of her handwritten letters will be on the block during a Dec. 19 auction. Hilda Hensley, Cline’s mother who died in 1998, made many of the costumes that are being auctioned. The stage outfits include a sky blue cowgirl skirt and matching vest worn early in her career, a gold dress with black lace overlay worn at Carnegie Hall in 1961 and a pair of black capri pants worn on the album cover of The Sound of Patsy Cline. The live auction will take place at Profiles in History, a Beverly Hills company specializing in historical memorabilia. Live bidding will also take place via the Internet. An advance showing of the clothing and the letters (dating from October 1959 through February 1963) will take place in Nashville. Cline died in a plane crash on March 5, 1963. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the estate of Hilda Hensley and her son, Sam Hensley. 10/23/02
